Sleep Wrinkles: Causes and Solutions

Today I’m going to talk about sleeping position and wrinkles. Wrinkles are caused by different factors: sun exposure and smoking, the way your muscles move and cause the skin to fold in predictable patterns, and compressive forces such as when you smoosh your face against a pillow while sleeping.

So what are sleep wrinkles?

Sleep wrinkles are for the most part separate from expression wrinkles. Sleep wrinkles are caused by the repeated compression of the skin on your face against a pillow or mattress, and they can become more noticeable over time. Have you seen those diagonal lines on the forehead near the middle portion of the eyebrow? That’s an example of a sleep wrinkle. The nasolabial folds are both a facial expression wrinkle, but also a sleep wrinkle so these can get especially prominent.

Causes of Sleep Wrinkles

Sleep wrinkles can be caused by a variety of factors, including the position in which you sleep, the firmness of your mattress and pillow, and the material your bedding is made of. Sleeping on your side or stomach can increase the likelihood of developing sleep wrinkles, as can using a pillow that doesn’t adequately support your head and neck.

Solutions for Sleep Wrinkles

With B0t0x, expression wrinkles can be targeted since it will temporarily weaken the muscles that are causing the skin to fold and create the wrinkle. However, B0t0x won’t work on sleep wrinkles since this is more about how your skin is being forced into a position by gravity, the weight of your face, and the traction from your pillow.

There are several solutions for preventing and reducing the appearance of sleep wrinkles. Firstly, try to sleep on your back to avoid compressing the skin on your face. If you have trouble sleeping on your back, consider using a specialized pillow that supports your head and neck while keeping your face free from pressure.

It’s also important to invest in high-quality bedding made from materials that are gentle on the skin, such as silk or satin. These materials are less likely to cause friction and compression on the skin, reducing the likelihood of sleep wrinkles forming.

Additionally, there are facial compression devices that I think theoretically would work to combat sleep wrinkles, since it’s discouraging the skin from bunching up.
